I was hoping the girls would tolerate me taking them to see this ship, and I was pleasantly surprised when they really did enjoy seeing it. We stayed for 2 hours and they asked questions and were impressed with the engine room and all the dials and controls that needed to be monitored for operation. It was fun seeing them check everything out - but I know I had the most fun!

USS Yorktown
On our way home from Florida we went to visit the USS Yorktown (CV10) in Charleston, SC. She is an amazing ship, with an incredible past. Glad they chose to preserve her as a museum ship. The size is overwhelming! This is the first time I was able to go in the bowels of a ship to the engine room, and it was awesome. The boilers were huge. You had to descend 4 stories of tight stairways to cramped quarters where all the machinery and controls were. You walked on catwalks. What a sacrifice was made by the sailors that kept these machines going to keep the ship alive. Then to see the hangar deck, it was so open! Just such a large space. Then the flight deck. Looked bigger than my entire yard. What a ship. We were even able to see Fort Sumpter from the stern of the ship!
Final Florida sunrise
This morning we went to the beach to see the sunrise. It was cold, but worth it. A nice ending to a fun trip. We also admired the handywork of someone who made a sand turtle.

Night out
The adults had a night out in St Augustine. First, was dinner at the Prohibition Kitchen, a nice restaurant on St Georges, and then we just walked around checking out the city at night. We were still in awe of the history, with so many buildings well over 200 years old.
Miniature Golf
It has become a tradition to go miniature golfing when on vacation. This morning that tradition continued. The important thing is, that of course, I won! Came in with a 48, barely beating out Nikki with a 49.

St Augustine Lighthouse
While the girls and I went to Cocoa Beach, Mandy went with the Greathouses to the St Augustine Lighthouse. They made it to the top and had a great view. Got to see some cool artifacts at the lighthouse museum.
Cocoa Beach
Today Emma, Izzy, Abby and I went to Cocoa Beach and Ron Jon Surf Shop. On the way into town we caught a view of the Vehicle Assembly Building at KSC, more than 15 miles away! Girls spent some time at the beach and then we went shopping.
